Why I Started HashNet: Three Problems I Couldn’t Stop Thinking About
Ian Issa explains why he founded HashNet in 2022, a multi-currency crypto mining company, and the three problems behind the HashNet Alpha Engine.
I started HashNet in 2022 because of three problems in crypto mining that nobody seemed to be solving together.
Problem 1: Machines were stuck on one coin
A machine built for a particular algorithm would usually mine one coin, regardless of what was happening across the networks it could support. Conditions change constantly (difficulty shifts, activity rises and falls), yet most operations either ignored that or relied on someone to switch manually, usually too late. I kept asking: why is a person doing a job software can do in milliseconds? That question became the HashNet Alpha Engine, our AI auto-switching mining system that switches mining between coins automatically within each algorithm group.
Problem 2: The operation was run reactively
Mining is described as digital, but it depends on hardware running at its limits around the clock. In many operations the response was reactive: wait for something to go wrong, then react. I wanted a system that could anticipate problems and run continuously without waiting on a human to notice. That is why autonomous automation was part of HashNet from the start: software that operates the fleet continuously, not a later add-on.
Problem 3: The industry had a trust problem
Crypto mining has had its share of operators who promised much and showed little. I did not want HashNet to ask for trust; I wanted it to earn trust in ways people could check. So we committed to operating within the law where we work, and to making the thing customers care about, payment, verifiable on-chain. When someone asks “Is HashNet legit?”, I want them to be able to answer it with evidence they can check themselves, not with our word.
Why one platform, not three fixes
The problems were connected. Smarter decisions needed better data; acting on them needed a system that never slept; and all of it needed a result people could trust. So I built HashNet as one multi-currency platform where AI decides, automation acts and the blockchain carries the proof of payment. Today HashNet is a multi-currency crypto mining company, mining six coins across four algorithms.
